Governing Board
As a thriving 501(c)3 Not For Profit organization, The Dual Immersion Academy operates under the guidance of an all-volunteer Board of Trustees that meets monthly on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. All meetings are open to the public (with the exception of closed sessions as allowed by Utah Law (52-4-204) for discussing personnel and negotiations) and are held at Dual Immersion Academy on 1155 S. Glendale Dr. Meeting agendas are posted on the DIA website.
Board meetings are held in person with an online option. In-person meetings are held in DIA’s conference room.
Board Members
I am grateful to be a part of the DIA community since 2008, and have enjoyed multiple terms of service with the Board of Directors. My wife and I have ten children, all of whom have attended Dual Immersion Academy as an important and valued part of their education. I’m passionate about cultural diversity and language learning, and am grateful for opportunities that have allowed me to become fluent in Spanish and spend time in Spanish-speaking communities, and I appreciate DIA’s role in helping me to provide similar opportunities to my children. My professional background is in computer science and software development, where I have the pleasure of applying technology to solve problems and work with wonderful teams and people. My first term on DIA’s board started in 2010, and I have previously served as board president, and I’m excited about the school’s mission and growth, and the bright future in store for DIA and its students. I love being involved in the friendly and strong community at DIA, who share my passion for educating children in a multi-cultural bilingual environment to prepare them for their future.
Teri Slaugh, a Business Performance Advisor, is known for her role as a connector and a resource to the community. With Insperity, Teri specializes in crafting tailored HR solutions for small and midsized businesses across diverse sectors. Drawing from a rich background in B2B sales, she excels in nurturing authentic connections and collaborating closely with clients to address their most pressing challenges, driving cost containment and enhancing operational efficiency.
Outside her professional realm, Teri is deeply involved in community initiatives. She holds influential positions such as Co-Director of Membership on the Board of Directors for Salt Lake SHRM and Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Dual Immersion Academy. Additionally, she is an active member of the South Salt Lake Women in Business Committee. Reflecting her commitment to making a meaningful impact beyond the boardroom, Teri extends her support to various other nonprofit organizations as much as time will allow.
Dr. Victor M. Jimenez Jr. is a researcher and professor at Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Jimenez’s research and teaching focus are in the fields of immunology, microbiology, and pharmacology. With over a decade of experience in higher education, Dr. Jimenez also holds faculty positions at Roseman University of Health Sciences in South Jordan, Utah, and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
His family and career ties to Arizona and South Texas have provided lifelong partnerships and opportunities to mentor and assist students of minority backgrounds to focus on careers in STEM and medicine. Growing up in Southern California, his appreciation for, and study of, Mexican American history, the Chicano Movement (El Movimiento), and cultural diversity in education took root while living and studying in Fresno, California. He speaks, English, Spanish, and some Portuguese. Dr. Jimenez and his wife enjoy raising their five children in Utah and are passionate about serving various diverse communities of Utah. When not in the laboratory, in the classroom, or on assignments, Dr. Jimenez can be found in the garden, fishing, or at a sporting event. In another life, his dream job would be to become a rancher.
As Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics Consulting at JourneyTEAM and a Ramsey Solutions Master Financial Coach, I offer nearly two decades of expertise in developing people and implementing data strategies for diverse companies. My passion for transforming organizations through data is demonstrated by leading over 150 successful analytics solution deployments, in many cases completely revolutionizing decision-making capabilities and operational efficiency. With a unique blend of deep technical knowledge, training, and coaching skills, I excel in creating engaging organizational change. Known for my out-of-the-box thinking, clear communication, and unwavering commitment to excellence and progress, I am a loved and valued leader who consistently delivers meaningful outcomes.
As a former parent of two children who benefited from dual immersion education at DIA, I feel grateful and fortunate to continue my participation with the school as a board member. I am excited about the school’s mission and unique dual immersion curriculum that gives students a head start, as they move up on their education.
I’ve been involved in non-profit agencies, service providers to the Latino community, from Head Start and Migrant Head Start Programs to Immigration Services since 1996. Engaging and serving families and children one on one has been a humbling and learning experience. I am a native of Mexico City, Mexico and I feel strongly about cultivating dual language and diversity to enrich the lives of children, families, and their communities.
My professional background is in immigration services, in which I have engaged in passionately for the last 17 years. As an immigration consultant and throughout the years in other roles, I’ve worked with hundreds of people that have been able to obtain legal status in this country and I’ve seen first-hand the positive impact it has made in their lives. I am excited for the opportunity to participate and contribute for the benefit of the students and families at DIA.
Lucia Murdock, the proud recipient of the 2024 Woman of the Year award from the South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, is a dedicated advocate for community engagement through creativity and artmaking. Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, Lucia moved to Salt Lake City in 2016, bringing with her a rich cultural background and a passion for the arts. As the owner of Workshop SLC, an art school that offers painting, drawing, and ceramics courses, Lucia strives to cultivate a welcoming and inspiring environment where people of all ages and skill levels can connect with art. Her mission is to make art accessible to everyone, fostering a safe and supportive space for creative expression. With a robust background in digital marketing, social media strategy, and gallery and museum operations, Lucia brings unparalleled expertise to the local arts community. Her active involvement in the South Salt Lake Women in Business Committee and various other nonprofit organizations such as Promise South Salt Lake, United Way, and Hispanic Heritage Foundation, highlights her commitment to community service and support. Lucia’s contributions to the arts are invaluable, reflecting her passion for nurturing a vibrant, inclusive community centered around creativity.
Dallin Jones is a visionary executive leader with construction, business law, real estate development, and strategic management expertise. Known for fostering collaboration, driving transformative change, and achieving exceptional results. Dallin holds advanced degrees in finance, business administration, and legal studies, which he combines with hands-on experience in leadership, project management, and conflict resolution. As a licensed contractor, he employs a dynamic and results-oriented approach, making him an ideal candidate for leadership roles, including board directorships.
Arbie Nersisian is a seasoned finance executive with over 15 years of experience spanning FP&A, M&A, treasury, and accounting across FinTech, SaaS, technology, retail, and financial services. Known for his entrepreneurial approach and operational acumen, Arbie excels in driving strategic financial initiatives and building high-performing teams. Arbie is recognized for his operational leadership, driving accountability, product strategy, pricing, strategic road mapping, sales expansion, and overall corporate performance. With a proven ability to help early-stage companies build robust frameworks for long-term success, he tactfully identifies opportunities for market penetration and operational efficiency while fostering alignment across product, sales, and engineering teams.
Currently, Arbie serves as Chief Financial Officer and Head of Corporate Development at EmpInfo, where he oversees finance operations, drives investor relations, and fosters partnerships to unlock new revenue streams. His previous roles at Mastercard (Divisional CFO) and Finicity (SVP, Finance) involved managing significant P&Ls, leading M&A transactions, and integrating teams post-acquisition.
He has held pivotal leadership roles, guiding organizations through transformative growth and three successful business exits—Finicity (acquired by Mastercard), Axis41 (acquired by Merkle), and Backcountry.com (acquired by TSG).
Arbie previously served as an executive board member for Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum. He is also an active mentor, youth coach, and community volunteer.
Arbie holds a Master of Accountancy from the University of Utah and is a licensed CPA.
