A family enrichment program for parents and children

Location: Dual Immersion Academy
1155 Glendale Drive, Salt Lake City

Time: Every Monday from April 9th 2012 – June 4th 2012 From 5:30PM – 8:00PM

Classes will be available in English and Spanish

Participation is FREE

Childcare will be provided for children. Everyone is invited, so bring your families, friends, and anyone you may know that might be interested in participating.

The VIA (Volunteers in Action) meeting on March 21st has been cancelled. Please attend the meeting on March 30 at 8:15 a.m. (in the library) to participate in our new program “Donuts for DIA.” There will be pastries and the opportunity to meet other parents. You will also be able to learn what is happening in the school! Please join us on March 30 at 8:15 am in the library for “Donuts for DIA.” There will be pastries, opportunities to meet other parents, and you will learn what is happening in the school.

Menu Changes

The Lunch Menu will be changed on Friday March 23rd and March 30, 2012 to the following :

March 23rd: Beef tacos to a Soft Bean Burrito
March 30th: Taco Salad to a Veggie Fajita’s

March 16th is Cheese Quesadilla’s and the Breakfast menu is already without meat those day’s!

Interested in Pre-School?

DIA is interested in providing Pre-School for the 2012-2013 school year. We would like to know your level of interest in Pre-School. Please fill out information in the office if you would like to enroll your child in Pre-School next year. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please let them know that we are now accepting applications for Pre-School enrollment 2012-2013.

Monday to Friday half day $375.00 per month. Morning from 8:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or Afternoon from 12:15 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

All day from Monday to Friday will be $650.00 per month. From 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Direct Writing Assesment

Please be aware that your 5th and/or 8th grade student(s) will be taking the Direct Writing Assessment (DWA) on Wednesday or Thursday this week (March 14 or 15).

The DWA is a summative assessment designed to evaluate each student’s writing skills according to the state’s 6-Traits writing rubric. This writing assessment is included in the 2012 core testing results commonly known as the CRTs (criterian-referenced tests). The results account for 5% of each student’s English Language Arts (ELA) CRT score. The CRTs are also used on a federal level to determine Monticello Academy’s Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), as required under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 2002.

Please ensure that your student(s) get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast on the morning of the assessment. Doing so will help your student do his or her best on this very important state assessment.

Pastorela Mexicana

Within the Mexican culture, “La Pastorela” began during the colonial era when missionaries viewed the theatrical tradition of the Nahuatl culture to spread Christianity in an educational way.

Throughout the centuries, the Pastorela became secularized and turned into a parody filled with music and comedy. It is now a popular art form filled with cultural expression appropriate for the entire family.

DIA is pleased to present:

“Pastorela Mexicana”

A production of Experimental Theater Group of America (GRETA)

DIA invites you and your family to come and spend a spectacular night full of culture and laughter experiencing rich Mexican traditions.
