Director of Dual Immersion Academy

Job Description

Dual Immersion Academy is a K-8 charter school located in the Glendale neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah, offering a unique program of bilingual education using a two-way dual language immersion 90:10 model in Spanish and English. The director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for hiring the Principal/Dean of Students, Business Manager and other staff, as well as for the overall operation of the school.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure that administrative functions are successfully achieved, effective
administrative procedures are developed, policies and school procedures are
carried out, and strategic planning is continuous.
- Research, pursue, and manage grant funds and corporate and individual
donations.
- Ensure the preparation, and timely completion of reports to federal and
state entities and to the board of directors.
- Develop processes for effective communication within the school community,
including communication with staff, meeting facilitation, and provide
support for the parent organization.
- Implement policies and procedures as determined by the board of directors,
and perform other duties as assigned by the board, in a timely manner.
- Oversee the overall fiscal health of the school.
- In conjunction with administrative staff, manage the day-to-day operation
of the school, hiring of teachers and staff, and approve purchase orders.
- Serve as the point of contact for community relations by attending or
conducting meetings of constituent groups, attending school functions,
attending external meetings, conferences, or training sessions, as required.
- Oversee maintenance and operations of the school facility, including
supplies and equipment purchasing and management.
- Interact with and direct staff to accomplish the mission of the school.
- Oversee implementation of effective student disciplinary procedures and
oversee judicial hearings and appeals that comply with all relevant laws,
policies and procedures.
- Have a comprehensive knowledge of human resources functions including
recruitment, hiring, training, ongoing performance coaching, corrective
action, and termination of employees.
- In conjunction with the principal, provide leadership to the instructional
staff that includes supervision, coaching, professional development, and
delegation of authority.
- Oversee the establishment and maintenance of a coordinated and challenging
K-8 curriculum that incorporates research-based methods of instruction
appropriate for promoting students' academic performance in Spanish and
English in a 90/10 two-way dual immersion model, including assessments for students learning bilingually.

Qualifications

- Masters degree or above
- Relevant experience in education
- Knowledge of fiscal management
- Experience with relevant federal, state, and charter school regulations
